There are many great sports nutrition companies on the market. Unfortunately, there are a lot of products out there that are not exactly healthy. The purpose of supplementation it to provide micro-nutrients that you may have difficulty obtaining though your diet or if you are targeting a specific issue or trying increase performance, activate muscle growth, increase your metabolism, etc.
The reality is everyone has an opinion and everyone has a magic pill or powder. If you are training or tying to increase your performance, you should treat your body like a temple. The cleaner more pure ingredients that you put in, the better results that you are going to get! Not only does this apply to supplementation but it also applies to your diet and exercise program. Lazy is not going to get you results. If you want to see results, you need to put in the work!
When shopping for supplements, I would avoid sugar, artificial sweeteners, colors, and preservatives. Artificial and chemical ingredients are not going to get you long-term results and they can tax your immune system, particularly refined sugar. Also, try to avoid products with caffeine. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning that it restricts blood flow and circulation. This will inhibit blood flow and reduce the amount of oxygen and micro-nutrients getting into the muscles and vital organs. Unfortunately many workout supplements, particularity pre-workout formulas are loaded with caffeine, sugar, artificial colors and sweeteners.
